Birdemic: Shock and Terror is 2009 horror film about large groups of acid filled, explosive eagles and vultures that attack Silicon Valley. Though universally panned by critics, the film gained a cult following, leading to more widespread distribution in 2010.

History

Birdemic was written and directed by James Nguyen.[1] The film was loosely based on the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock classic The Birds. The film follows a young couple as they try to escape a large groups of homicidal birds. After promoting his film during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, in January of 2009, Nguyen sold the film to Severin Films in early 2010. The film premiered in LA on February 27th, 2010. The film had its UK premiere[8] in London on May 28th, 2010, after showing in several US cities throughout the spring. Its sequel Birdemic 2: The Resurrection[4], which follows a filmmaker and actress trying to survive a deadly bird attack, was released online on April 16th, 2013.



Reception

The film was panned by critics, earning it a rating of 20% on Rotten Tomatoes[5] and a score of 1.9 on IMDB. The criticism covered almost every aspect of the movie, though critics were especially critical of the CGI birds, which appeared highly unrealistic but when the birds will appeared after in 40 Minutes.



On Jun 27th, 2012, YouTuber and movie reviewer JonTronShow[7] uploaded a video titled “Birdemic: The Best Worst Movie Ever” examining why the movie, in spite of its flaws, had merit much like The Room.



On April 8, 2014, Cinema Sins uploaded a video to their YouTube channel[6] titled “Everything Wrong With Birdemic: Shock & Terror.” While their series normally indicates a specific time frame the video will work within (for example in five minutes or less) this video is set it fill “an awful lot of minutes,” indicating the film has many more issues than normal. The video gained over 590,000 views in less than a week.
