2014 Tumblr-4chan Raids refer to back-and-forth raids carried out by sites Tumblr and 4chan in early July 2014.
Background
On June 9th, 2014, a Tumblr shutdown4chan posted a plan[1] to have a raid on 4chan on the 4th of July, during the American Independace Day. The goal, according to the post, was to shut down the site.
During the raid day, several posts attributed to Tumblr were made on 4chan’s /b/ board, calling out the users for their prejudice and injustice. After that 4chan retaliated by flooding several tags on Tumblr related with feminism, social justice, and several big fandoms with porn and gore.
Notable Developments
After the events, several petitions were created, aimed at 4chan with the goal of shutting down the site[2][3]. In retaliation 4chan users created a petition to label users of Tumblr as “mentally handicapped landwhales”[4].
