About
Kidmograph is the pseudonym used by computer animation artist Gustavo Torres, who has gained a following on Tumblr for his visually stunning animated GIFs that combine the aesthetics of retro-futurism, psychedelic art and recursive motion graphics.
History
According to an interview with the animated GIF site Giphy, Torres first started making animated GIFs in 2001. On October 8th, 2010, Torres uploaded his first animation to his Kidmograph Vimeo[3] channel (shown below).
On March 28th, 2012, Torres launched the Kidmograph Tumblr[5] blog. In May, Torres began posting images of 3D models created with Cinema 4D software (shown below, left). In July, Torres published the first animated GIFs to the blog (shown below, right).
On November 10th, Torres posted an animated GIF titled “----bridges----”, featuring a looping series of glowing, multi-colored lines (shown below, left). In one year, the post gained over 400 notes. The following month, Torres began highlighting animated GIFs on a regular basis, many of which were created using datamoshing techniques (shown below, right).
On May 19th, 2013, Redditor Nit0 submitted Torres’ Tumblr blog to the /r/glitch_art[4] subreddit. On June 26th, Torres was interviewed by the animated GIF blog Giphy[1] and listed Tumblr users traceloops, mrdiv, weird5cience, carivanderyacht and badblueprints his favorite GIF artists. On April 25th, 2014, The Creators Project[2] highlighted several of Torres’ animated GIFs.
