History

CorridorDigital

The first instance of the Dubstep Gun traces back to YouTube special effects collaborator CorridorDigital^[1] that posted this video on August 19, 2011, which demonstrates how the weapon would be used during a gunfight. As of October 2014, the video gained over 16,000,000 views.

Saints Row 4

Another instance that managed to put the aforementioned weapon on the map was on the video game Saints Row 4. It is an unlockable weapon that uses the same basic concept, with the inclusion of an improved design and 3 variations of it containing different songs.

This video by YouTuber GamingMistress^[2] showcases the weapon’s variations in the game. The video earned over 1,000,000 views as of October 2014.

Reception

Since Saints Row 4 was released, people took advantage on making a Minecraft mod about the weapon as well as making a full-size replica of it.
