About
Monsquaz is an 3D model of a naked man and monsquaz.swf is a flash animation later made based on this image.[8] There is a censored and an uncensored version of the animation. In the censored version, a green arrow is covering the penis.
Origin
The original Monsquaz picture was made in the software Poser 6. On December 23rd, 2005, a 4chan user going by the name dusthillguy made monsquaz.swf. In a way it’s a successor to robind.swf (an earlier flash movie made by dusthillguy), with influences from Cyan Helkaraxe, Deven Gallo, Mr Bungle and a french amateur musician. The name Monsquaz comes from the song Mr. Bungle – Ma Meeshka Mow Skwoz.
Spread
It’s website, www.monsquaz.com, originally featured the monsquaz.swf animation in fullscreen.[3] It has since been expanded to be more interactive. The monsquaz.swf video on youtube was uploaded on November 20, 2007, and currently has over 30,000 views.[1] Since the monsquaz.swf file has spread on various other websites such as swfchan[4] and other image boards, the exact view count is unknown. When youtube introduced higher quality video formats, it was reuploaded titled Monsquaz (HD).[2]
During a LAN party in Gothenburg 2007, a Monsquaz Watching Contest was held where the contestants had to watch monsquaz.swf for as long as possible.[7] A video of the contest was hosted on Google Videos which is now unfortunately gone. Around 20 people joined the contest and the rules were strict, you had to keep your eyes on the screen. After four hours, one of the three remaining contestants suddenly had a nosebleed and had to leave. Then the two remaining contestants sat until 5 hours and 5 minutes when the guy who came second closed his eyes for too long as he was falling asleep, meaning the contest finally ended and the winner was declared.
In 2009, an anonymous user made a post on the bunbunmaru image board about the sunset used as background in monsquaz.swf.[6] The following posts described further history, such as Deven Gallos involvement and how the idea spawned.
On 11th February 2012, an album was released in honor of Monsquaz named Fackin’ Hardcore.[5]
The Monsquaz community hangs out at #monsquaz @ irc.esper.net. Each year on 23 December, the day monsquaz.swf was created, they celebrate the International Monsquaz Watching Day (IMWD). In 2015, Monsquaz will celebrate 10 years and a large party is being planned.
