Snoo, also colloquially called “The Reddit Alien” or “The Reddit Robot”, is the mascot of the social networking site Reddit. The mascot has reached popularity across the website, and has become a symbol of both the website and Internet culture.
Origin
Snoo was created by Reddit co-founder Alex Ohanian, and has stood as the mascot of Reddit since the site’s initial launch on June 23, 2005.[1][2] It is often used in the website’s design, including in the header and 404 pages.[3] The name Snoo comes from ’Snew.com, a working name for Reddit from before its launch.[8]
Spread
As Snoo appears in the header of many pages on Reddit, it has become a widely seen logo ubiquitous with Reddit. Several subreddits dedicated to Snoo exist, including r/snoo, r/bizarrosnoo, and r/snoovatars.[4][5][6] The official Reddit Store sells official Snoo merchandize, including figurines, dolls, and T-shirts.[7] Many miscellaneous pieces of fanart also exist.
