#FerrellTakesTheField is a charitable event in which actor, Will Ferrell[1] raised awareness to a cancer charity known as Cancer For College[2] as well as film footage for a documentary for HBO[3] in conjunction with the website Funny Or Die.
Background
On March 10, 2015 Will Ferrell announced that he would be playing all 9 positions in 10 different Major League Baseball[4] games as a part of a new baseball centered special for the internet webs show Funny or Die, set to appear on HBO. The following day Ferrell announced that the special would be dedicated to battling cancer via the Cancer for College charity organization. On March 12, 2015, Ferrell traveled to Arizona and played in five Spring Training games in which he played in all 9 fielding positions and umpired for ten different teams during the span of the day. In each game, he wore the jersey number, 19. During the event, MLB created a player account for Will Ferrell to detail his stats.
Twitter Hashtag
During the games the hashtag #FerrellTakesTheField was created to garner interest in the event. Also several teams began to share mock trade-ups invloving Ferrell. The Arizona Diamondbacks[5] official Twitter account[6] claimed that Ferrell was traded to the Cincinnati Reds[7] for a Churro Dog and a D-Bat Dog while the Los Angeles Angels[8] official Twitter account[9] announced that Ferrell was traded to the Cubs[10] for a washing machine.
