Sheeple is a term commonly associated with conspiracy theorists referring to those “unenlightened” toward whatever conspiracy the theorist is discussing. The phrase has been widely mocked on the Internet.
Origin
The term “sheeple” was first reported to be used in the 1950s; popular use of the word, however, did not appear until the 1980s.[2][3]
Spread
The phrase was used in a strip of the webcomic xkcd in 2012, which sparked some popularity of the phrase.[1]
