Nerf is a term used on video game context when a weapon or a character gets his power reduced.
Origin
The first use of nerf can be found on Ultima Online fanbase, when the developers reduced swords’ attack on melee combat. The term comes from the popular toy brand Nerf, a series of foam-based weaponry, as a relation of Nerf’s capability of damage.[1]
