Put a Rang on It is a single topic Tumblr blog and Instagram feed featuring photographs of celebrities digitally altered to appear as if they have fair skin, freckles and red hair, to mimic a person often referred to as a “rang” or “ginger.”
Origin
On April 28th, 2015, Australian ad creative Nadia Ahmad “Put a Rang on It” Tumblr and Instagram feed were launched simultaneously, with each highlighting 18 pictures of celebrities photoshopped with red hair and fair skin that day (shown below).

Spread
On May 5th, the pop culture blog NewNowNext published an article titled “This Sickening New Tumblr Makes Everyone Famous Into a Ginger.” On May 6th, Redditor throwawaymysobriety submitted a link to the Tumblr blog to the /r/ofcoursethatsinteresting.[4] On May 8th, Business Insider[5] published an interview with Ahmad, who assured readers that she is not “anti-ginger.”
