Brendan Fraser’s Alimony refers to a series of jokes regarding the American actor Brendan Fraser and the high amount of money he has to pay as alimony to his ex-wife, starting a series of rumours about Fraser being depressed and suicidal and giving up with his life. The jokes are normally associated with an edited photo of him with Gino DiGiannantonio’s hair and the catchphrase “Just Fuck My Shit Up”, which is often used as forum game in similar vein to Lankyposting.

Origin

On December 27th, 2007, Brendan Fraser announced that he would divorce from his wife, Afton Smith, after nine years of marriage.^[4] In early 2013, Fraser petitioned the courts for a reductions of his alimony, asserting he was unable to meet the annual obligation of $900,000.^[1] On February 16th, 2015, a thread featuring an edited picture of Fraser with Gino DiGiannantonio’s hair and the post “I-is he gonna make it?” was submited on 4chan’s /tv/ board.^[5] As DiGiannantonio’s original image included the catchphrase “Just Fuck My Shit Up”, it began being associated to Fraser.

The phrase “Just Fuck My Shit Up” has been used as a forum game on 4chan, with one poster starting with “JUST” and others trying to follow in a combo, similar to Lankyposting. On April 11th, 2015, 8chan’s board /just/ was created.^[3] On March 30th, 2015 youtuber Beavan Cotterhill submitted a video titled “Latest Brendan Fraser 2015 #savebrendanfraser #unfuckhisshit”, featuring a song about Fraser and promoting the hastags #savebrendanfraser^[8] and #unfuckhisshit.^[9] The next day a twitter account named “SaveBrendanFraser” was created, posting edited photos featuring Fraser.^[7] On April 3rd, 2015 youtuber Justin Cuck uploaded a video titled “Just Fuck My Shit Up – Help to save Brendan Fraser’s career”, featuring various scenes of Fraser with the song Bring Me Back To Life at the background.
