About

WTF with Marc Maron is a podcast released twice each week and hosted by comedian Marc Maron, which typically features interviews with comedians, entertainers and other notable figures. The title stems from the Internet slang initialism for the expression what the fuck?

History

On July 15th, 2009, Maron’s Air America terrestrial radio show Breakroom Live with Maron & Seder was abruptly cancelled.[1] In September that year, Maron launched the podcast WTF with Marc Maron, using the Air America studios to record the first episodes without their permission.[13] On November 10th, 2014, an Android app for the podcast was released on the Google Play store.[5]

Notable Appearances

In April 2010, comedian Robin Williams was interviewed on the podcast, in which he discussed his struggles with suicidal depression and drug addiction (shown below, left). In May, comedian Carlos Mencia appeared in two hour-long interviews on the podcast, during which he discussed his reputation for plagiarizing other stand-up comics (shown below, right).

In October, comedian Louis C.K. guest starred in a two-episode interview with Maron, during which the pair reconciled their differences after having a falling out several years prior. On January 31st, 2011, the comedian Leo Anthony Gallagher walked out of an interview on the show after Maron attempted to discuss allegations that Gallagher had performed homophobic material.

Obama Appearance

On June 18th, 2015, Maron announced that United States President Barack Obama would appear on the podcast the following Monday (shown below).[3] That day, several news sites reported on the announcement, including The Huffington Post,[6]CNN,[7] AV Club,[8] UpRoxx,[9] Deadline[10] and Salon.[11]

Social Media Presence

As of June 2015, the @WTFpod[12] Twitter feed has over 122,000 followers and the Marc Maron Facebook[4] page has more than 111,000 likes.
