About

Carter Reynolds is a vlogger known for his large fan base on the video-sharing mobile app Vine. In June 2015, he was accused of sexual misconduct after a video surfaced in which he appears to pressure fellow vlogger Maggie Lindemann into performing oral sex on him.

History

On May 22nd, 2013, Reynolds created an account on Vine,[1] with his first video featuring several shots of his 2012-2013 high school yearbook (shown below).

Fan Hate Controversy

In October 2014, Reynolds’ then-girlfriend vlogger Maggie Lindemann livestreaming via the service YouNow, during which Reynolds can be heard saying “I hate fans, they are annoying and they bother me" somewhere off camera (shown below, left). Clips of the incident were widely circulated online, with many criticizing Reynolds for being ungrateful to his supporters. On May 22nd, 2015, Reynolds posted a video providing an explanation for the livestream comments (shown below, right).

Leaked Video

On June 22nd, 2015, two short videos surfaced online purportedly showing Reynolds and Lindemann on a bed. In the first video, Lindemann is shown giggling with Reynolds and asks him to take his pants off. In the second part, Reynolds exposes his penis, leading Lindemann to say “this makes me so uncomfortable.” After Reynold’s protests saying “do it,” Lindemann again says “I don’t think I can do this.”

The second video quickly circulated across various social media platforms, with many arguing that Reynolds’ actions constituted sexual assault. That morning, Reynolds announced via Twitter that his account had been hacked and that he would be posting an explanation of the incident (shown below, left). Later that day, Reynolds tweeted two images saying the video was hacked from his iCloud and claiming the content was being misinterpreting by critics (shown below, middle, right).

On June 23rd, Lindemann posted a tweet[7] saying “trust that this is being handled and I’ve been told I can’t comment on it at this time.”[2] In the coming days, several news sites published articles about the incident, including Fusion, Gawker, The Daily Dot, The Daily Mail and BuzzFeed.

Social Media Presence

As of June 2015, Reynolds has accumulated over 4.3 million Vine followers, 2.9 million Instagram[6] followers, 2.31 million Twitter[4] followers and 859,800 YouTube[5] subscribers.
