Hey Kid, Wanna 'X'?

Hey kid, wanna ‘X’? is a snowclone used to indicate an interest in a certain type of pornography, typically either furry art, or a specific form of hentai known as “straight shota”.

Origin

The original phrase, “Hey kid, wanna yiff?”, was coined on the FurAffinty forums on May 4, 2008 in a thread called, “Furry Pickup Lines”. Later that same day user Dyluck posted, “HEYKID, WANNAYIFF?” as his pick-up line. ^[1] Later that year on June 18, 2008 a user on Leftover Lounge posted an article entitled “Hey kid, wanna yiff?” in which they describe their thoughts on the growing furry fandom. ^[2]

Spread

On September 9, 2012 a thread on the IGN forums was created with the OP posting an image of what appears two furry members of “Peta” holding up signs which state, “HEYKIDWANNAYIFF?” (shown below). ^[3] It is probable that the image had been commented on over 2 years prior on the FurAffinity forums, however both hyperlinks that led to two photos have since expired. ^[4]

On January 2, 2012 YouTuber LAPFOXTRAX uploaded a video entitled “The Quick Brown Fox – YEAR OF THEBADDRAGON” in which the lyrics state:

Hey kid, wanna /ss/? (sometimes simply known as “/ss/?”) is a phrase used by users of the /ss/ board of 7chan, those who shown an interest in the specific type of hentai known as “straight shota”, as well as others who understand the context of the phrase, but are not necessarily interested in the subject manner. The phrase began sometime in either 2008 or early 2009 on the image board 7chan by users of the /ss/, or straight shota, board. On June 1, 2009 an Urban Dictionary entry was made for “/ss/” simply describing it as “straight shota”. ^[5] The phrase has been used numerous times on various boards across 4chan some of which have been archived on Archive.moe. ^[6] On December 27, 2012 YouTuber OOOzw uploaded a clip from the 1983 anime series Ginga Hyōryū Vifam in which a younger male character shares a kiss with an older female character (shown below).
