Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is a twin-engine straight wing jet aircraft designed for CAS (Close Air Support) missions – it is used by the United States Air force since March 1977. Its main feature is that it was designed around the 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger rotary cannon, which is usually loaded with depleted uranium shells, hence why it is really effective against armor. The most distinctive feature of the A-10 is the noise that the GAU-8 makes due to the bullets breaking the sound barrier when discharged, known as the “BRRT” sound.
