About

Early? I’d Better Make A Joke is a YouTube comment bait, usually posted before the view count of a video goes above 301, anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours after its initial upload. The comment’s format includes some form of the phrase: “I’m early? I’d better make a joke.” followed by several hard line breaks, so that the joke (usually a sarcastic phrase or sentence) must be revealed by using YouTube’s “Read more” button.

Origin

It is unknown where the first comment in this style was posted, but they began appearing on newly posted videos during the summer of 2015.[1]

Spread

These are another form of upvote baits in the Youtube Comments section, which many users use to gain likes on their comment. The comments are often posted in videos of popular YouTube accounts, specifically ones that focus on Lets Plays, such as Game Grumps and Markiplier. Searching YouTube comments is still inexact, and due to the mutation of the phrase, an exact count is difficult to gather, however preliminary searches have found 625 examples of the bait.[2] In addition, it has been mentioned in several forums off of YouTube, including the Game Grumps subreddit and the OSBot forum.[3][4]
