Plopper, mostly known as Spider-Pig and Harry Plopper, is the name of the fictional animated pig known from the 2007 film “The Simpsons Movie”, the film version of the popular animated TV series The Simpsons .
Origin
The pig named Plopper first appeared in a trailer from the successful 2007 film “The Simpsons Movie” before internationally airing it in cinemas on July 26, 2007. It’s first appearence was in the fictional fast food restaurant Krusty Burger, when Krusty, the clown, featured the pig in a TV commercial for his new burger named The Clogger and decided to kill it after completing the commercial. Homer became upset and immediately adopted him but later spends more time with the pig than with his son Bart.
Plopper is voiced by the voice actress “Tress MacNeille”, who also voiced for characters such as Linda, Mom and Hattie McDoogal from another popular animated TV series Futurama .
Spider-Pig
“Spider-Pig. Spider-Pig. Does whatever a Spider-Pig does. Can he swing, from a web? No he can’t, he’s a pig. Look out! He is a Spider-Pig!”
In a scene, where Homer began his epiphany and held Plopper on the ceiling, he began singing a parody of the Spider-Man Theme Song pretending the pig to be Spider-Ham / Peter Porker, the 1983 anthropomorphic funny animal parody Marvel character of Spider-Man . This scene is one of the most memorable moments from the film according to the fans and the pig has been realized mostly as Spider-Pig by proving it through fan-art.
Spider-Pig Theme Song
The short parody song was favoured by the fans the most and many users began making their remixes including Homer Simpson’s voice. Fans desired and requested the creators to make a full song of the short appearence of the Spider-Man Theme Song parody sang by Homer. The desire has been accomplished by releasing a Soundtrack album for the film on July 24, 2007 by Adrenaline Music Group. All the tracks are composed by german music producer and film composer Hans Zimmer and the “Spider Pig” song from the album charted in several countries, reaching number eight on New Zealand’s Top 40 Singles Chart, fourteen on Norway’s VG-lista, twenty-three on the UK Singles Chart and fifty-three on the Swedish Singles Chart.
Harry Plopper
After Marge told Homer to dispose of the waste properly, and said that he could take Spider-Pig with him, Homer corrected her and told her that he renamed Spider-Pig to Harry Plopper, which is a spoof of Harry Potter . This also inspired fan-arts.
