How it started was that GameFaqs user DDP886 posted a topic about how he was playing New Super Mario Bros. U on the new Wii U and how his A button fell off of his controller. Comments soon spawned of people demanding for him to submit pictures of the event. Eventually, users started making parodies of the title into comments such as “i think TC fell off the face of reality”, “[This message fell off at the request of a moderator or administrator]”, and “Mcdonald’s fell off…….to have a restaurant in mars.”.

Most people have seen the pictures circulating on social media, dogs that mention a certain ‘Lucho’. (short name of Luis, very common name in Spanish) which refers to any situation and call his owner Lucho.

The Original meme started with a Siberian dog stand on two legs, as it has generated several hypotheses about who might be Lucho. Some say that a netizen posted a photo of Siberian says “Lucho”, referring to a random human, that means “Lucho” could have been any other name as Bill, John, Bob etc.

The fact is, “Lucho” is Chilean singer and television presenter, Luis Jara, who said during a program as a child talking dogs called him “Lucho”.

“Oye Lucho” or “El perro del lucho” (Lucho`s dog) meme are no longer restricted to the Siberian dog and now any dog ​​in strange or funny situations call his own Lucho. This meme is popular in South American countries (Chile Argentina Peru and Uruguay)

Apply Cold Water To Burned Area is a catchphrase and reaction image used to emphasize that someone has been disrespected or made fun of.

Origin

The earliest known use of an image depicting the emergency burn treatment as a metaphor for “you got burned” can be found in a FunnyJunk[3] post submitted on May 12th, 2012 in response to a class disciplinary report describing a hostile exchange between two students.



The reaction image was posted by oodlesandoodles[4] was paired with the text “Hope they remembered to pour some cool water on that burn” and received 76 upvotes from FunnyJunk members. Though this specific image is the one most often used, other depictions including drawings can also be found.



Usage in Slang

The term “burn” in its slang sense to mean putting down someone verbally became popular in the 1970’s.[2] It was brought back into popular culture through the 2000s American comedy That ’70s Show as a catchphrase of Ashton Kutcher’s character, Kelso.[1] The term “burn” was first added to Urban Dictionary[9] on November 2nd, 2002, but a definition added on May 5th, 2004 was highlighted as the September 5th, 2005 Urban Word of the Day.



Spread

On May 14th, We Know Memes[5] posted an image macro pairing the burn image with a screenshot of an iPhone message where a person declines another’s romantic advances by calling them ugly. This image was reposted to The Lolbrary[6], 9gag[7] and Reddit.[8]



On FunnyJunk, there are nearly 90 search results for the term “apply cold water.”[14] Additional posts using the reaction image can be found on Tumblr with the tags “apply cold water”[10] and “apply cold water to burned area.”[11] On Facebook[12], there are dozens of groups dedicated to the reaction image. The largest[13] was created in November 2012 and has gained more than 18,000 likes.

Horse-Sized Duck refers to a hypothetical query that asks whether 100 duck-sized horses or one horse-sized duck would be victorious in battle, or which of the two options the respondent would prefer to fight.

Origin

The city design blog City of Sound[1] published a post titled “Duck-sized horses” on October 9th, 2003, which featured a photograph from a newspaper asking “who would be victorious in a fight between 100 duck-sized horses and one horse-sized duck” (shown below).



Spread

On October 12th, 2003, Trance Addict Forums[2] member Harry submitted a post titled “Who would win in a fight – a horse sized duck, or 100 duck sized horses?”, which received 54 responses within the next month. On August 4th, 2006, Yahoo Answers[12] user Robert S asked the same question, to which user comradelouise argued that the 100 duck-sized horses would be victorious. On November 23rd, 2007, Comic Book Resources Forum[13] member Nik Hasta submitted a thread titled “One Horse-Sized Duck vs. 100 Duck-Sized Horses!”, which received 29 replies within the next 24 hours. On July 15th, 2010, YouTuber JoshRocksGuitarHero uploaded a video titled “The Horse Sized Duck,” revealing he would rather fight a horse-sized duck (shown below).



On June 15th, 2012, player Johannah on the Internet drawing game Drawception[9] submitted a drawing request titled “1 horsesized duck vs 10 ducksized horses,” although the request largely went unnoticed. On November 16th, the equestrian news blog Horse Nation[8] published a post inviting readers to vote on which of the two options they would prefer to fight. On November 28th, Yahoo News[6] published an article titled “NYU Student Replies-all to 40,000 Classmates, sparking ‘Replyallcalypse’,” which reported that one student sent an email asking “Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or 1 horse sized duck?” As of December 10th, 2012, there are seven Facebook[7] pages containing the keyword “horse-sized duck” or “duck-sized horse.”[7]

On Reddit

In 2012, the query became a popular inside joke question to use in “ask me anything” posts on the social networking site Reddit. On August 29th, Redditor Reaverax submitted the question “Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses or 1 horse-sized duck” in President Barack Obama’s post in the /r/IAmA[3] subreddit, which received over 1,100 up votes within the next three months. On September 24th, Redditor supahappyfuntime asked the same question to New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof in his post on /r/IAmA.[11] On the following day, the Atlantic[4] published an article titled “Where the Obsession with Horse-Sized Ducks Came From,” which cited the City of Sound blog post as the origin of the meme. On November 9th, Redditor Jello_Eater submitted an image macro featuring a picture of science educator Bill Nye captioned with a seamlessly logical response to the hypothetical question (shown below). Within one month, the post received over 6,400 up votes and 220 comments.

IKEA Monkey is the nickname given to a Japanese snow macaque named Darwin that was found loose wearing a coat at a Canadian IKEA store in December of 2012.

Origin

Twitter user Bronwyn Iler Page tweeted a photograph of a Japanese snow macaque monkey wearing a shearling coat at an IKEA store in Toronto, Canada on December 9th, 2012. Within three days, the tweet received over 415 retweets and 158 favorites.

The same day, Twitter user Lisa Lin tweeted a new photograph of the same monkey standing in front of a window at IKEA, receiving over 120 retweets and 40 favorites within the next three days.

Spread

As the photograph of the monkey began spreading online, the @Ikea_Monkey novelty Twitter account was created, which posted tweets from the perspective of the juvenile macaque.

That same day, Gawker[1] published an article titled “Shearling Coat-Wearing Monkey Found Wandering Around Canadian Ikea,” which reported that the monkey was roaming the store for an hour before animal control arrived. The article was later updated to include tweets from Tom Podolec of CTV News, who reported that the six-month-old macaque would not be returned to its owners.



On December 10th, Redditor toucher submitted Bronwyn Page’s photograph of the monkey to the /r/WTF[6] subreddit, where it received over 18,700 up votes and 440 comments within 24 hours.

Rich Kids of Instagram is a single topic blog that showcases images taken with the photo sharing app Instagram by the presumably wealthy due to luxury items or lavish settings.

Origin

The single topic blog Rich Kids of Instagram[1] began on July 13th, 2012 to showcase and critique lavish lifestyles of some teenagers who share photos on the app. The anonymous owners of the blog encourage Instagram users to use the hashtag #rkoi to collect the photos. Within two weeks, 1228 Instagram photos had the hashtag.[2]



Spread

The blog was featured on the NY Daily News[3], Buzzfeed[4], the Atlantic Wire[5] and the Huffington Post[6], who published a quote from one of the teens whose photo was featured on the blog. Ninteen year old Annabel Schwartz, who was shown vacationing in Saint-Tropez, told reporters she was embarrassed to have her photo on the site, saying her and her friends “consider themselves to be a lot more substantial than their father’s credit card.”

On August 14th, CNBC[7] published an article titled “‘Rich Kids of Instagram’: Overserved and Oversharing”, which compared the Tumblr blog’s voyeuristic appeal to the 2003 documentary film Born Rich[8] and the MTV series “My Super Sweet 16.” The same day, PC Mag published the articles “Embarassing Rich Kids of Instagram”[9] and “Oversharing Prompts Shutdown of Dell Daughter’s Twitter Account”[10], which reported that a photo Michael Dell’s son Zachary eating on a family jet (shown below) was featured on the single topic blog. The photo had been shared on Instagram by daughter Alexa Dell, who was subsequently forced to shut down her various social media accounts.



On August 15th, MSNBC published an article titled “Rich Kids Are Oversharing on Social Medial; Are Yours?” On the following day, the Examiner[11] published an article titled “‘Rich Kids of Instagram’ Set to Knock McKayla Maroney’s Meme Off Its Lofty Perch”, which quoted the blog’s owner who revealed that the site was doing quite well. Also on August 16th, the technology blog Gather[12] published a post titled “Rich Kids of Instagram: You Haven’t Lived Until You’ve Doused Yourself in Dom Perignon.” On the following day, The Washington Post[13] published an op/ed titled “Why the Internet Hates the Rich Kids of Instagram and the Brant Brothers”, which argued that the Internet reviles “ostentatious displays of wealth.”

The Fine Brothers[1], made up of Benny and Rafi Fine, are popular Youtube producers. They are best known for their react series, in which they show different groups of people popular internet phenomena and record their reactions and comments on the video, and MyMusic[2], a mockumentary-style web series, about the antics of the fictional MyMusic, a transmedia production company .

Online History

The Fine Brothers posted their first video on Youtube released on 21 September 2004, titled G.I. Joe The Epic Saga. The series soon gained a large fanbase, but despite the popularity of the series, the videos were taken down due to cease and desist orders from Hasbro. However, the Fine Brothers continued to release videos afterwards.

React series

The React series is a web show in which different groups of people, such as kids, teenagers, elders and fellow Youtube celebrities, are show a variety of viral internet phenomena and record their reactions and opinions o them. The series first started on 16 October 2010 with “Kids React to Viral Videos #1”. Due to the success of Kids React, a spin-off series titled Teens React was launched on 17 November 2011, following a similar premise, but with more mature videos. This was then followed by Elders React on 24 May 2012 and Youtubers React on 6 December 2012 respectively

MyMusic

MyMusic is a comedy web show, first created on 15 April 2012. It is set as a mockumentary, based on the working lives of the employees at the fictional MyMusic transmedia production company. Originally created as a TV show, it grew into a web show after $100 million funding from Youtube, as part of their Original Channel Initiative[3].

Premature Peter is an advice animal image macro series featuring a photo of a teenage boy with captions describing scenarios which may lead to premature ejaculation. After being posted on several sites, the images were taken down due to the subject’s age and complaints from his parents.

Origin

Redditor xJDRAGx submitted a post titled “Unfortunate” to the /r/funny[1] subreddit on December 4th, 2012, which featured a school photograph of a teenage boy with only part of his shirt visible displaying the words “I Came” (shown below). Within 48 hours, the post received over 20,200 views and 240 comments. The same day, Redditor mtldrummr112 submitted a post titled “Premature Peter” to the /r/AdviceAnimals[6] subreddit, which featured an image macro of the school photo with the caption “She licked my earlobe aaand…” Within 48 hours, the post received over 13,500 up votes and 250 comments.



Spread

On December 4th, Redditor Stephen_foster submitted a post titled “Pre-Premature Peter” to the /r/AdviceAnimals[2] subreddit, featuring the Premature Peter photo with Andy Samberg’s head superimposed from the “Jizz in my Pants” music video (shown below). Within 48 hours, the post received over 2,400 up votes. On the following day, the Internet humor site 9gag[2] reposted Redditor Stephen_foster’s image, receiving over 13,000 up votes and 3,500 Facebook shares within 24 hours.



Also on December 5th, the original school photograph was published on the Cheezburger site Memebase,[4] receving over 130 reblogs and 150 Facebook shares in 22 hours. On December 6th, The Daily Dot[7] removed a story titled “Premature Peter Explodes on Reddit,” replacing the article with an update informing readers that it had been pulled after receiving a request made by the subject’s parents. The same day, Quickmeme[8] removed the gallery view for Premature Peter but left the individual image pages intact. As of December 6th, 2012, there have been 110 posts submitted to Reddit[5] including the phrase “premature Peter.”

Unknown as of yet, but this phrase has been around on the internet for a very long time. it is most likley was first used in real life.
but the phrase had a very notable usage in the adult cartoon series ‘SouthPark’ when there was a scene when the obnoxious character ‘cartman’ licks the tears off a crying kid. spouting: “your tears of unfathomable sadness are delicious”.

This most likely caused the meme to be more popular and helped it spread to the mainstream

This sentence is widly used as an image macro in image boards often used with pictures of crying people/cretures with with an exaggerated amount of tears and/or someone drinking them or smiling.

Another popluar form of this meme in image macros, is simply a character that seems to enjoy drinking what is labled as ‘your tears’.
