About
Savant is the stage name of Aleksander Vinter, a musician known for his wide variety of compositional works, spanning across genres such as electro house, dubstep and classical. His name comes from savant syndrome, a condition of mental disability sufferers that manifests itself in vastly heightened abilities in a particular skill.
Online History
In 2009, Alexander released his first album, “Outbreak”, under his own name. It was nominated for a Norwegian Grammy Award, but was unsuccessful. He acknowledges the nomination as “the catalyst” for his subsequent works.
On November 11, 2011, Alexander released “Ninur”, his debut album under the name “Savant”. Following Ninur, Savant released four albums in 2012: “Vario” in February, “Overworld” in June, “ISM” in September and “Alchemist” in December.[1]
On August 8, 2014, Savant released “Protos”, his tenth album.[2]
Reputation
Concerts
Savant has performed all over the world, travelling to the US, Canada, the UK, France and Switzerland. His first tour was in 2009, and he has actively toured since.[13]
Savant – Ascent
On December 4, 2013, Savant – Ascent, developed by DPad Studios, was released on Steam, the App Store, the Google Play Store and Gamersgate.[4] It is a fast-paced action game starring Savant’s avatar, an alchemist seeking to climb a magical tower and claim the Philosopher’s Stone. The game features tracks by Savant, including “Kali 41”[6] and “Butterfly”[7] (both from the album Cult). The game went on to win the GameMaker’s Game of the Year award later that year.[11]
On April 8, 2014, Savant – Ascent was added to the Humble Bundle: PC and Android 9 as a beat-the-average reward.[8] The bundle sold 179,831 units and made slightly over US$700,000.[10]
Other works
On August 21, 2014, Size DOES Matter was released on the Google Play Store. It features several Savant tracks, such as “Melody Circus” and “Living iPod”.[14]
Personal Life
Despite being a well-known successful musician, Savant has never had any formal music training. His early composing experiences were with Rave eJay, an early musical arrangement program, and FastTracker, a music tracker program.
Savant cites Daft Punk, Nintendo and Contra as some of his influences. His favourite game is The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.[12]
