Free! Ending Dance Parodies (Japanese: Free!EDパロ) refers to a series of parody videos reproducing a dance in the ending credit movie for Free! – Iwatobi Swim Club, the 1st season of a Japanese TV anime series Free!. It was a popular subject for fan works among female fans on the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND) in 2013.

Origin

The TV anime series was produced by Kyoto Animation and aired 12 episodes between July and September 2013. Its ending theme “Splash Free!” was sung by Style Five, a group formed by the voice actors for main characters: Nobunaga Shimazaki^[1], Tatsuhisa Suzuki^[2], Tsubasa Yonaga^[3], Daisuke Hirakawa^[4], Mamoru Miyano^[5]. And as same as their previous works, "Hare Hare Yukai" for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and "Motteke! Sailor Fuku" for Lucky Star, the studio inserts its favorite rendition, characters’ smooth dancing which begins from 0:18 in the footage.

Spread

Fans inspired by this dancing scene soon began creating their own version and post it to NND. Its amount had reached to 70 in the airing period, and increased to near 100 until the start of the 2nd season in July of the following year.^[6] Many of them are reuploaded to YouTube as usual.^[7]
