About
Host Club Opening Parodies (Japanese: ホスト部パロ) refers to a series of parody videos of reproducing the opening credit movies of a Japanese TV anime Ouran High School Host Club by hand-drawn animation. In a reflection of its fanbase, it had been particularly practiced by female users on the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND) in 2007-2010.
Origin
The anime was produced by studio BONES and aired between April and September 2006. Its opening theme song “Sakura Kiss” was sung by a Japanese female singer/idol Chieko Kawabe.[1]
Spread
As a part of fandom for the manga/anime, hand-drawn animated videos reproducing the opening/ending credit movie by other anime/game characters began to be created by female fans after the Japanese video hub site was launched in the following year. According to the search results[2], users seemed to post videos actively from the middle of 2007 to 2008. And many of them are reuploaded to YouTube.[3]
However, the amount of videos in this series isn’t so large and it contains many unfinished versions which length is less than 10 seconds. This is because it’s one of the famous characteristics of female creations that users are allowed to give up finishing their works and post imperfect creations with a bunch of excuses.
