“It Was Me, Barry!” is a line associated with Professor Zoom, also known as Reverse-Flash, an archnemesis of a DC Comics superhero Flash. It is usually used as a parody of the character and how petty he appears to be. The jokes and images often consist of phrases such as “IT WAS ME, BARRY, ME!” or “I WASTHAT ___, BARRY!”.
Origin
The line’s origins are connected to a monthly six-issue American comic book Flash: Rebirth, although the line itself does not appear there. The line’s context comes from one of the issues where Eobard Thawne a.k.a. Zoom reveals to Barry Allen a.k.a. Flash that he made it so that he was responsible for numerous terrible things that happened in Barry’s life[1].
On the 4chan board /co/, the oldest archived posts parodying that scene can be dated back to February 8th, 2010. Soon after replies came in that parodied the Reverse-Flash with images and some jokes.
