Shower Beer refers to the practice of consuming a beer while bathing in a shower. On various community sites online, enthusiasts often share selfie photographs of themselves consuming shower beers.
Origin
On March 12th, 2004, Urban Dictionary[1] user Mel submitted an entry for “shower beer,” defining it as “an alcoholic beverage one consumes while cleansing himself.”
Spread
In April 2006, the Shower Beer Buddy product was placed for sale on Amazon.[3] On December 13th, 2011, the /r/showerbeer[2] subreddit was launched as a page to share photographs of people consuming beers in the shower. In the first three years, the subreddit gained over 28,000 subscribers. On March 29th, 2013, the site ShowerBeer.org[4] was launched, which highlights social media posts about shower beers. On December 11th, The Daily Dot[7] published an article titled “The Internet history of the showerbeer.” The same day, Esquire[6] published an article titled “Ode to Showerbeer.”
