About
Chef Jacques La Merde is the pseudonym of an anonymous Instagrammer who uses a single topic blog to parody food porn and haute cuisine with photographs of detail-oriented dishes created from common junk foods.
Online History
The Chef Jacques La Merde Instagram[1] account was created by an anonymous user on February 5th, 2015. Translating to “Chef Jack Shit”, the first post was a photograph of a fancy-looking plate of food. The caption gave the ingredients: "tartar of hand cut hot rod, @eatnomiku egg yolk, “intense pickle” Doritos soil" and tagged the post with a combination of common foodie hashtags and product names. As of May 2015, this post had 667 likes and 129 comments.
In the account’s second post, the captions became all caps and began referring to the life of the fictional chef more frequently, including references to a sous-chef named Paco.
Spread
By May of 2015, after only 28 posts, the account had acquired more than 63,700 followers, and was written about on a variety of food blogs, including Eater, Twisted Sifter, and the Onion AV Club. [2][3][4] In an interview with First We Feast[5], the blogger explained the process of creating the dishes.
