“Derploma Guy” or “Mischievous Mike” refers to a photograph of a high school graduate making a mischievous face. It was posted[1] to imgur.com on June 4th, 2015 and soon took over the site, with lots of captions and edits.
Origin
In June 4th, 2015, an user who quickly changed his username to DerplomaGuy posted a picture of himself with the title “I graduated high school last week, and this picture of me made it into my local newspaper” holding a diploma with a derpy but mischievous face, which, as imgur users pointed out, makes him look like he’s plotting a slightly evil plan. The image, in June 6th, 2015, had almost a million views and the count is still growing.
Spread
After being posted, it quickly spread though imgur with captions and edits that usually mock everyday things, such as “10 items or fewer at the express cash, I had 11” or “Unbuckles seatbelt before plane has come to a complete stop”.
