Major Lazer is a electronic music group founded by the American DJ Diplo, with current members DJ Jillionaire and Walshy Fire and the English DJ Switch as initial memeber, parting ways on 2011. The group is known for mixing musical genres like reagge or dancehall with other dance genres.

History

Formerly made up by DJ Diplo and Switch, who met through the rapper M.I.A., the group released his first album Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do on June 16th, 2009, including songs like “Hold the Line”, “Pon de Floor”, “Keep It Going Louder” and “Bubble Butt”.[7] The duo performed various tours and actuations until late 2011, when the two DJ parted ways and DJ/Producer Jillionaire and Walshy Fire joined the group. On 2012, Major Lazer collabored with the rapper Snoop Dogg in order to produce some tracks for his reagge project, announcing in September a new album, Free the Universe, released on March 12th, 2013.[8] In February 2015, Diplo revealed details about a new album, Peace Is the Mission, being released on June 1st, 2015.[9]

Online History

On April 30th, 2009, Major Lazer created an official YouTube account,[6] being followed on November 18th by a VEVO account.[5] On July 27th, 2009, Eric Wareheim uploaded to his YouTube account the videoclip of the Major Lazer song “Pon De Floor”, featuring a group of dancers performing daggering. On May 14th, 2010, Major Lazer VEVO account released a “daggering guide” starred by Skerrit Bwoy, related to “Pon de Floor” videoclip.
